HIKING TRAILS:
The rich and diverse ecological heritage offers hikers splendid opportunities to explore the area. A selection of hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult caters for the hiker.

The small picturesque commercial fishing harbour provides facilities for the keen fisherman, with rich rocky formations along the coastline for active rock anglers and divers.

River Route:
Start your tour on the western side of the Goukou river. Follow the road skirting the western bank of the river. The road has sharp corners and steep gradients and requires cautious driving. Beautiful views over green meadows of small farms as well as river vistas will be experienced. After 3.3km you will see a gate on your left allowing entrance through a game fence "Hoekland". A visit to view the game may be worthwhile. 4,7km further a sign reading "Kandahar" will appear on your right. Here Dan and Linda Brink cultivate Lavender and also extract the oil. About 1km beyond Kandahar, Milkwood/Muffet farms are situated on your right. Overnight accommodation is available. Contact No.  (028) 7541649. 6.4km from Kandahar you will reach Tamani Farmhouse on your left. This is a private nature reserve with river frontage, picnic spots and hiking trails. 5km from Tamani a road will join in from the right. Proceed straight on from this junction towards the west for 6.4km . Note the change of vegetative type to a typical fynbos biome alongside the road. Turn right. After 6km you will arrive at a turnoff marked Heidelberg, but only from the opposite direction. Turn left, 1.4 km onwards a sign "Swartheuwel Guest Farm" will appear on your left. This is a sheep farm. Visit a traditional thatched home, A tractor/trailer ride through indigenous fynbos and attendance of a concert performed by the pupils of a
nearby school can be arranged. Accommodation is available and refreshments can i)e served. Contact no (028) 713 3853. Continue your journey towards the west take a gradual turn to your right at about 2.5 km and continue for another 3.8 km to reach a T-junction with a wider road turn right. Within 100 m you will see a farm road on your left, "Uitkyk Boerdery". Turn in and follow the road for 1 km to reach the farm house and workers dwellings. Here you can experience the home lives of farm workers and their families and enjoy the traditional "Roosterkoek". Among other species, ostriches are raised in a natural habitat. Returning to the main road turn right. Follow this road for 17km to track the Heidelberg Road turn left. Drive south for 3.6 km. This road will lead you to the quaint village of Vermaaklikheid, a farming community of yesteryear .Before you reach the centre of the village, road signs of "River Magic" will be visible. This is a holiday establishment that provides accommodation, meals and boat trips on the Duivenhoks river.

Take the southerly route for 2,6 km. Drive 2,6 km to enjoy the view of the Duivenhoks river. (Cut de Sac). You will reach a closed gate to the private Holiday Resort of Puntjie .Return to Marker 26: This is the "Blombos" road. Drive east for 6km to find an entrance on your left marked Satsenhergspos". This farm belongs to Hirsh and Sue fish. Walk freely among the Fynbos. Accommodation is available in a fully equipped farmhouse. Contact no 082 658 4561. Continue on the Blombos road for 13km to an adjoining road to the left. Drive for another 12,5 km to reach the tar road connecting Stilbaai and Jongensfontein .You have now rejoined route 1.

Fynbos Farm Route
Start east of the bridge over the Goukou River. Drive north to the N2. After 2,3 km you will see a road on your right leading up between two rows of blue gum trees, where a 15km 4X4 track can be used at a small fee. Return to the tar road, proceed for 1,5km The sign indicates "Melkhoutfontein". Turn right, 1km further to the historic hamlet: home to Soete Inval Botanical Garden & Soete Arbeid Craft Workshop
For information on the history and points of interest, take the second road left and drive to the first corner to the quaint restored monument, home to the Information Bureau. Tel:(028) 754 3250 On your return turn right and continue north. After 9,6km you will reach an entrance on your left leading to a group of green roofed industrial buildings. One of these buildings houses the unique museum for veteran, but beautifully restored tractors and other machines.

On your return to the tar road at "Kardoesie", a little roadside store, interesting products and refreshments are available. Drive 3,6km , turn left at the sign "Melkhoutkraal". Follow the main gravel road for 4,8km. Look out for a name board on your left indicating "Steve and Brenda Neate". Turn left and follow the road to the Neate's house. The Neate's are honey farmers. Brenda also breeds parrots. Different flavours of
honey can be purchased. Contact No. (028) 754 3399. On leaving the Neate's continue for 3,8km to a T-junction. On your way you will cross the Goukou river again over a low water bridge. At the T-junction turn right and follow the road for 6,4km to another T-junction
At this T-junction turn left. Follow this road for 5,This is a turnoff to Nico and Wilmarie de Jager's farm, "Tromp se Kop". Follow the road to the house clearly visible against the rocky ridge. Wilmarie is prepared to show you their wealth of proteas and pincushions as well as other fynbos vegetation. Flowers are for sale. Accommodation is available and an exciting night game drive can be arranged. Contact no (028) 754 8806. Drive 12,5km to the tar road. This road connects Stilbaai with Jongensfontein.  Turn right to reach Jongensfontein. This picturesque seaside hamlet is situated in an amphitheatre - like setting overlooking a shallow sheltered bay - a surfer's paradise.

Return to the tar road, follow the road for 6 km . The cemetery is on your left. Turn right and follow the road to me commercial fishing harbour and enjoyable "off-jetty angling". Meals are available. A whale watching site is situated just above the harbour. Another whale view site is on the eastern side of the river mouth at the Lappiesbaai Restaurant at the main beach.
